☆ Some questions for the artists of tumblr!! ☆

I am a visual artist wishing to begin selling my art - specifically tattoo designs to start. I'm wondering if anyone has advice on my following questions:

• How do you prevent your deisgns/art from being stolen?

• Is there an equation you use for pricing?

• What platform you prefer to use?

• Any other advice for an artist just starting to sell their work?

the worst part of wabting a character to have tattoos is that you have to think of what tattoos they have and then deisgn the tattoos and then draw the tattoos on their body

Rolls this au I have in my head

So like basically: the diamond DOESN’T explode but it is very much not in good shape, the war has been going on for years and since then, the elders have grown more closed off, a little more cold, They’re tired, and their priority is keeping the kingdom togeather.

And then skykids come along, when everyone is still alive, the same urge to venture into to reach that diamond.

Except, when they die, when their light is taken from the diamond it does NOT like that. And after the first skykid makes it though the elders now assume skykids are trying to destroy the diamond when in reality they’re trying to help clense it, much like how I theorize the elders were trying to do in the actual game.

Skykids from then on are on a constant run. Ancestors not being spirits because they’re alive means they’re everywhere. With them being tasked to capture and round up any skykid they see, so no more can reach the diamond. This is under the guise that they are “dangerous” told by the elders. Yet the reason is vauge to not cause a panic. Ik this doesn’t make sence but let’s assume ancestors understand skykids can’t harm them themselves yet are there to harm something else.

Anyways a lot on my mind abt this, this is just an excuse to give more edge to the elder designs HEBKEBDJDB

Now abt Forests deisgn: they work on the darkstone constantly, so much so that they’re hands have weakened light from the constant exposure. It presents on their hands with a dark blue tinge , which their added tattoo’s cover up quite well. They’re dress is tied and tatterd because it kept getting in the way, and they don’t care to change it. The same goes for their hair, braided tight and cut short as their long hair became more of an annoyance than anything.

Pre-Rebellion, I imagine that Tray would be the head scientist in Dan's science gem team. He's in charge of making sure orders and procedures are followed, along with overseeing any experiments they would be conducting. He is also brimmed with curiosity and intuition, good qualities for scientists who want to learn answers to any questions the world throws at them.

Out of both him and Dan, Tray would be the one most likely to change and develop first, to realize that there is more to life than just the Gem Empire conquering other planets. Heck, maybe Tray even gives a helping hand in Dan changing his ways and views.

Tray would use a hand sized drill, gifted to him after he joined the rebellion. Though dangerous looking because you could easily shatter someone with it, Trayaurus is very, very careful with said weapon (it could be like Rose's sword even)

He's made to be a tough gem, kinda like Peridots, so it takes a lot to make him poof. Still at some point, his gem would be somewhat cracked, not dangerously thankfully, but he wouldn't be able to use his arms freely anymore. He can't really wield his drill that well anymore and so leaves the fighting to the others.

That isn't to say he won't help in other ways. He's still a scientist. Tray could probably help by maybe coming up with inventions that could help the rebels or help problem solve other things along the way.

Also, I'm leaning towards the idea of Dan being a morally ambigious Diamond who conducts unethical experiments at first, but maybe later on, something happens that causes Dan to character develop good strong morals and join the Rebellion. Thus, Rebel Dan deisgn!! (Who said that we had to follow every canon event and only Pink could rebel? XD)

He leans more towards his MC skin, with a little bit of punk added and some tattoo like patterns. A bit of symbolism about freedom and self-expression and no longer following the status quo of being a regal pure diamond. (Also, sorry if it's too small, but around his gem is the morse code for Family)

Dan and Tray rebelling would probably happen sometime after Pink Lizzie's disappearance. I'm talking months or years here, and it could go either of two ways

A) Dan just outright announces his change of loyalty to homeworld and leaves with Tray and any other gems who agree. He'd go to one of the rebellion planets currently in the system, though maybe not the one housing the Hermits/Empires squad.

The reason for this is because (1) Two Diamonds in the same group would cause a power inbalance and (2) if we're opening the possibility of other SMP's being brought in, it would make sense that Dan would be in a group that he's in, like Shady Oaks or even the QSMP crew

B) Dan could pretend to still side with homeworld and only have Tray escape and join the rebels. Dan could act like an undercover agent or Mole and help the rebels by leaking top secret info to them, though only Tray would know it's Dan as the mole for reasons.

(I think this could have a funny misunderstanding scenario where a rebel group sneaking around Homeworld for some reason would end up encountering Dan while he's giving off info, and both think that they've been caught, not realizing that they're both on the same side. It takes a little while, and some fighting for them to get on the same page LOL)

8. I collect mugs! And also earrings -- I try and buy a pair of earrings everywhere I travel to.

16. My favorite hoodie is a blue one with a quote on it that's an inside joke from my college -- it's a super specific and odd marketing slogan that they had on the college website during the years I attended.

25. Piercings or tattoos! I have actually been thinking a lot about what tattoo I would want. I don't have any tattoos yet but I have always kinda wanted one, but just can't commit to a deisgn. I would get a bird or a tree or a river or a doe. I have my ears pierced.

35. I don't really have a favorite stuffed animal right now, but I had a large and relatively realistic tiger, which I got as a Christmas gift when I was 11 or so. I slept with that tiger all through college.

39. The best part of my day today was spending time outside with my kiddo.

48. I don't have a single favorite plate or bowl, but I do have a set of small Japanese bowls decorated with flowers. I think they are meant to be rice bowls, but I use them as ice cream bowls.

Additional just a regular customer who's friends with some artists things

there's shops that do walk ins and shops that only do appointments sometimes weeks and months in advance if their artists are fancy enough

a lot of artists will tattoo a thing that you found on the internet or the 10 thousandth same infinity sign (this will be the same shops that do walk ins) BUT if they're at least somewhat famous or artsy they might ONLY do their own designs either flashes (deisgns they've done by themselves. sometimes they only tattoo each one once and never again) or bespoke designs they work with the customer at. for a tattooshop au maybe go for the first one.

tattooing has regional cultural differences. I know some stuff about american because cultural imperialism and have been tattooed in germany and ireland. so just pretend you're from somewhere else if someone says its different actually (ok maybe dont do that)

everyone has their own supplies and they're also currently low on something they currently need.

there's so many different types of needles depending on tattoo style there'll be like 5 different different size and amount of parallel needles on the work surface

they have Opinions about like the speed and the type of machine and like there's cordless and not cordless ones and they WILL debate about it.

every other person in the shop will also come look at your stencil. and will also look over the artists shoulder to see how it's going and will make approving noises (hopefully)

if every single one of them goes "huh, does it hurt yet?" when you're barely started. you're in for a ride. that one's a personal experience. I suffered. it looks amazing but Ow.

some people fall asleep getting tattooed. dont worry about it.

girls tm are better with pain than boys tm (listen i'm nonbinary dont come at me.) (cis)men will be wimpering and breathing through it and think about how tough they are getting a bizep thing done, and (cis)girls will be chillin talking bout their day going over the ribs for the 5th time. i dont know why it's like this. but every artist ive ever been at has said the same thing. maybe it's fat distribution, maybe its pain tolerance, maybe girls are just better than boys. but its just a thing. you can absolutely play with that in your au.

if you wanna make an artist happy find what style they do, give them a basic idea and go "in your style i would like something like *idea* in at least X size on this body part with picture of body part (especially if you already have tattoos so they know how far out they can go) and you will get the dopest bespoke tattoo in the world.

everyone knows an asshole artist that thinks they're better than other artists. everyone knows one. sadly sometimes they#re also really talented.

tattoo artists can be creeps. tattoo customers can also be creeps. because people can be creeps. it sucks but it happens. for all your whump needs. piercers too they usually have a bit of separation from the tattoo artists too.

all of them smoke. it's like retail employees or service workers. all of them smoke.

So, tattoo shop AUs are really popping off lately and personally I love it. What’s more romantic than bleeding for art? Nothing!

But as someone married to a tattoo artist, I have been experiencing some mild She Wouldn’t Say That regarding tattoo culture. So here’s a few quick tips that may help inform your AU. With a grain of salt for my mostly-second-hand knowledge:

NO ONE REPUTABLE SHOP WILL TATTOO A DRUNK PERSON. EVER. or even a person they suspect of any kind of inebriation. This is not just for Regret reasons, but also because alcohol is a blood thinner. If someone is on an acute dose of blood thinners, you generally do not want to stab them dozens of times per second.

Maybe this is regional, but in my experience most tattoo places don’t call themselves parlors anymore. It has a kind of seedy vibe. I see shop or studio a lot but rarely parlor.

Most tattoo artists are hot, yes, but none are as hot at my wife

Tattooing janks up your hands. Sometimes in a RSI way but definitely in a changing-gloves-every-five-minutes-fucks-up-your-skin way.

Artists themselves are rarely if ever employees of the shop. They will be independent contractors who pay the shop either a cut of their sales or rent on their station like a hair dresser. They are also (usually) responsible for taking care of their own supplies, tools, etc. except for the stencil printer. What kind of dweeb would have their own stencil printer?

There is always a line for the stencil printer. Always.

Artists generally spend orders of magnitude more time working on art, replying to emails, doing consults, etc compared to time with their needles in skin.

A typical schedule for an artist might be: wake up at noon and guzzle half her body weight in coffee, one appointment from 1-4, and another from 6-9. Home to eat one (1) real meal at 10 pm. Drawing until 5 am. This is good for her actually and good for our marriage and she’s so healthy all the time.

An ideal shop receptionist needs to be friendly, knowledgeable, and encouraging. They also need to be willing to get out the baseball bat that is kept behind the counter.

If a shop has to choose between “good people skills” and “will promptly rebuff Nazis and the obviously inebriated” the later is often a more important consideration.

At any given moment in any given shop there’s going to be at least one apprentice or someone bumming around hoping to be taken on as an apprentice. They spawn on tic and this feature cannot be disabled.
